





DESIGN SKILLS TO LEARN
- applying chalk pastels …. our favorite are prismacolor premier NuPastel firm pastel color sticks (see art tools in menu for link)
- drawing a cityscape
- creating an illustration to tell a story about pollution
MATERIALS: (SEE ART TOOLS IN MENU FOR DETAILS + LINKS)
- watercolor sketchbook or 2 sheets of watercolor paper
- pencil
- ruler
- thin felt tip maker
- thick felt tip marker
- chalk pastels our favorite are prismacolor premier NuPastel firm pastel color sticks (see art tools in menu for link) …..other options: sidewalk chalk, color pencils, crayons, watercolor & watercolor pencils before inking
- extra water color paper or heavy paper for labels
- scissors
- 3M foam tape
STEP NO.1
- grab a pencil and follow the tutorial to draw a cityscape
- tell your story about pollution in your drawing
STEP NO.2
- draw a car following the tutorial below
step no.3
- trace your drawing in felt tip pen
- the buildings in the background should be traced in a thin pen whereas the car and drawings in the foreground should be traced in a thicker pen.
- note: I felt that that it would be exasperating for one of my children to trace her pencil drawing in ink so she left hers in pencil.

- follow the demo to apply color using chalk pastels…. our favorite are prismacolor premier NuPastel firm pastel color sticks (see art tools in menu for link) …..other options: sidewalk chalk, color pencils, crayons, watercolor & watercolor pencils before inking
step no.5
- label forms of pollution
- write a form of pollution on heavy paper
- draw a box around it with a “V” on the end
- cut out label
- tape on with 3M foam tape
- write the word “pollution” using hand lettering
- note: after i drew my pollution page i made this label change. you may notice the labels are written directly on my page. if you write your labels directly on your page you will need to do it before using chalk. ink doesn’t work well over chalk
