DESIGN SKILLS TO LEARN

  • drawing a cartoon style snowshoe rabbit and bear with cubs …. use the special tutorial below from our friends, sienna and naomi….. an enormous thanks to these sweet girls for fantastic, easy to follow steps on these darling creatures in the snow!
  • mixing custom paint colors
  • making trees out of paper and painting with a sponge

MATERIALS: (SEE ART TOOLS IN MENU FOR DETAILS + LINKS)

  • watercolor sketchbook or 2 sheets of watercolor paper
  • pencil
  • tempera paint or poster-paint in green, blue, black, and white
  • sponge
  • brown paper
  • sharpie
  • markers
  • color pencils
  • scissors
  • 3M foam tape

STEP NO.1

  • create a snowy background
  • follow the tutorial below to mix a custom gray-green-blue paint for your sky

STEP NO.2

  • cut out and paint your trees following the tutorials below
  • glue down your trees after they dry

STEP NO.3

  • follow the tutorial below to:
  • mix custom gray-blue paint
  • paint snow tracks (leave white space for your hibernating bear)

STEP NO.4

  • draw a bear in hibernation with her cubs directly in your sketchbook following sienna’s tutorial
  • color with color pencils

STEP NO.5

  • on a separate piece of watercolor paper draw and color a snowshoe rabbit following naomi’s tutorial
  • cut out your bunny and tape it on your page with 3M foam tape

step no.6

  • draw in your migrating birds with black color pencil
  • label your project with science facts
  • note: we found that marker does NOT work well on the solid tempera paint such as the sky ….a dark color pencil works much better or keep writing with marker off the sky portion.
