DESIGN SKILLS TO LEARN

  • creating perspective and distance through dark to light grays
  • monochromatic color palette
  • mixing paint to get dark to light grays
  • be inspired by a photograph for a painting

MATERIALS (SEE ART TOOLS IN MENU FOR DETAILS + LINKS)

  • watercolor sketchbook or watercolor paper 
  • pencil
  • black and white tempera paint (poster paint)
  • paint brushes (small and medium)
  • cups for mixing paint
  • paper towels to protect other pages
  • black and white gridded paper (my paper has blue grids so I made dark black and white xerox copy)
  • black felt tip marker
  • scissors
  • white paper or white sticker labels if you choose to stick your windows off after painting (see video for detail)
  • glue stick

STEP NO.1

  • draw factory buildings
  • note: larger buildings with larger windows are easier to paint

STEP NO.2

  • PAINT! follow the video for directions

STEP NO.3

  • write history sentence on black and white gridded paper (my paper has blue grids so I made dark black and white xerox copy)
  • cut out + glue on
