


DESIGN SKILLS TO LEARN:
- designing a background using watercolor crystals
- folding and cutting paper to make a mirror image (crown)
- collage layout: assemblage of different forms
MATERIALS: (SEE ART TOOLS IN MENU FOR DETAILS + LINKS)
- watercolor sketchbook or watercolor paper
- additional watercolor paper
- gray brusho watercolor crystals for background (other mediums such as tempera paint, watercolor, or colored paper can be used in place of watercolor crystals)
- spray bottle, paper towels, rubbers gloves if using watercolor crystals
- spice jar to put watercolor crystals in
- scissors
- gold paint (other options are: gold paper, gold crayons, gold color pencils)
- print out of charlemagne stamp (see below)
- glue stick
- vellum (other options: plain paper or tracing paper)
- black color pencil
- 3M foam tape



STEP NO.1
- create a background on watercolor paper (we used watercolor crystals . see demo)
- let dry or dry with art dryer



STEP NO.2
- print and cut out charlemagne stamp (see jpeg)
- adhere stamp to background with glue stick

STEP NO.3
- design a crown (see demo)
- draw, cut, paint
- use 3M tape to adhere to sketchbook



STEP NO.4
- print “800”( jpeg attached) on vellum or plain paper
- write history sentence out on vellum with a black color pencil
- fold in half and cut to make a “v” shape at the bottom
- wrap around the top of the back background page and tape on back
- adhere collage to sketchbook with 3M tape
