  • blue watercolor paint
  • large paint brush
  • blue water watercolor pencil
  • black thin felt tip pen (optional)
  • 3M mounting tape

  • draw zones with blue watercolor pencil
  • paint zones different shades of blue from light at top to dark at bottom
  • refer to watercoloring clouds demo (week 18 history) for the sky
  • trace over blue lines with watercolor pencil again

step No.2 draw creatures

  • use a separate piece of water color paper or white card stock
  • draw and cut out creatures
  • I found this website helpful for learning which sea creatures live in each zone.
  • (optional) outline creatures with a thin, black felt tip pen. i drew light with my pencil so i needed go over mine with a black felt tip pen. my girls have a heavier hand and pencil was dark enough for their creatures. (see art tools in the menu for a link to my favorite black, felt, razor tip pen by pilot)
  • we decided we liked the contrast of the white sea creatures against the blue and kept them white for a more graphic look.

We love Art for Kids Hub drawing tutorials! We used a few of their tutorials for drawing our sea creatures. They have posted many sea creature tutorials on You Tube. Below are some that we used. My littlest enjoyed the cartoon style while my oldest and I did the more realistic tutorials. Search Art for Kids Hub on You Tube and find the tutorials you like the best!
